Turkey is the 18th largest economy in the world and the 6th biggest economy in Europe, according to GDP figures (at PPP) in 2018.
GDP, which was USD 200 billion in 2001, more than tripled and reached USD 851 billion by 2018. GDP per capita in Turkey which was USD 3.500 in 2002 soared to USD 10.546 in 2017.

Export, which was USD 132 billion in 2008, rose to USD 168 billion by at the end of 2018.
 

Rising Sector of Turkey: MACHINERY
Production in the Turkish machinery sector more than doubled in 10 years.
With its rapid development and the potential it has, the Turkish Machinery Sector is a sector increasing its share in the Turkish economy and exports. The share of Turkish machinery export is 10,2% in Turkey’s total export.
Machinery is the second largest sector in Turkey’s export.
Turkey exports to more than 200 countries (including free zones).
In 2017, Turkey ranks 29th in world’s machinery export, 23th in world’s machinery import.
Over the last 15 years, machinery export has increased 10 fold.
About 60% of our export is to EU and USA.
By the year 2023, Turkish machinery aims to double their share in Turkey’s total export.

Over the last 10 years;
Turkey’s machinery export, which was USD 8,1 billion in 2009, has reached USD 17,1 billion in 2018.
In 2018, while the share of machinery sector in total export of Turkey has been 10,2%.

FDI Inflows to Turkey (Cumulative - USD billion)
- Turkey’s impressive growth performance and structural reforms implemented over the past decade have landed it on the radar of many international investors.
- According to EY Attractiveness Survey Europe, Turkey became the 7th most popular FDI destination in Europe in 2017, up 3 places from 2016. The country was home to 229 projects, up 66 percent year-on-year, and enjoyed a 3 percent share in all FDI projects across Europe.
- Up until 2002, total FDI into Turkey stood only at USD 15 billion, while the country has since attracted around USD 193 billion of FDI during the 2003-2017 period.

To represent Turkish machinery sector worldwide, Turkish Mechanical Industry Platform turned into a Federation in 2014 (MAKFED). 16 sub-sectoral associations which represent machinery manufacturers are members of MAKFED.
